Metropolitan Asian Family Services is a not-for-profit, community based organization established in 1993. This organization is now in the 13th year of providing comprehensive and integrated social services to the immigrant population of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Former Yougoslavia and other South Asian countries and the following is the description of services we provide;
The Golden Diner’s Program at our Chicago location and the Congregate Meal Program at the Niles location are the two hot meal programs that we offer for anyone age 60 or older, their spouses regardless of age, their escorts and others. The meals are served at lunchtime, prepared in the most hygienic conditions and provide adequate nutritional diet. These Programs are funded by City of Chicago and Suburban Area Agency on Aging Respectively.
Our Citizenship and Immigration Assistance Program aims to tutor and prepare elderly for the citizenship test. We also help them with filling out citizenship and Immigration forms, escort them to the INS for interview, referrals, counseling and providing proper information. Our Computer Training Program acquaints people with the basic knowledge of computer and the ESL Classes we offer removes the language barrier and equips our elderly and other immigrant population with workable English language.
Our Senior Centers at the Chicago & Niles locations are established to accommodate an informal gathering for seniors, who come in to visit, have a cup of tea with friends and have some fun by playing cards and other group activities. We also work to report and stop Elder Mistreatment thus saving them from becoming victims of abuse, neglect and exploitation. MAFS conducts Health Screenings on quarterly basis and offers Heath Education Seminars and workshops to educate elderly and to increase their awareness about different health problems.
We also offer After School Tutoring and guidance to the youth in the subjects of need and the Summer Youth Program encourages kids to participate in cultural activities and makes them learn things and have fun at the same time.
MAFS, in addition to this, also offers other services such as LIHEAP, SOS and Outreach to Health Education and Yoga etc. For details about our programs and services, please call at one of our three locations and our representatives will be happy to assist you.
In colabration with Universal Metro Asian Services, MAFS has been providing Community Care Program that is funded by the Illinois Department on Aging and is exclusively for the elderly at home who need help at Home.
